LASU Alumna, Lawal Maryam Abiodun, Emerges Best Graduating Female Student at Nigerian Law School Call to Bar Ceremony

Lagos State University (LASU) has once again demonstrated its reputation for academic excellence as one of its distinguished graduates, Lawal Maryam Abiodun, emerged as the Best Graduating Female Student and the Second Overall Best Graduating Student at the Nigerian Law School’s Call to Bar ceremony held in Abuja on July 10, 2025.

Maryam, an alumna of LASU’s Faculty of Law (Common and Islamic Law), distinguished herself from among 7,134 new wigs called to the Bar this session, a remarkable feat that cements her status as an outstanding ambassador of the institution.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, at the ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Kareem Olatoye, described Maryam as “a true ambassador and a shining example of the standard of excellence we uphold at LASU.” He urged current and prospective law students to emulate her diligence, brilliance, and dedication to their studies.

In her congratulatory message, the Vice-Chancellor praised Maryam’s exceptional achievement as a moment of pride for the entire LASU community. She commended Professor Olatoye and the Faculty of Law’s lecturers for their dedication to nurturing students into models of academic and professional excellence.

“This outstanding achievement reaffirms LASU’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates who distinguish themselves anywhere in the world,” Professor Olatunji-Bello said. She encouraged all LASU law students to uphold the university’s enduring culture of excellence and to continue striving for distinction in their academic and professional pursuits.
