LASU Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies Opens Admissions for Portuguese Programmes

Ojo, Lagos | September 24, 2025

The Lagos State University (LASU) Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies (LASUCAS) has announced the commencement of admissions for its certificate, diploma, and CELPE-Bras training programmes in Portuguese for the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to the university, the programmes are designed to promote Portuguese language proficiency and Afro-Brazilian cultural studies while preparing candidates to pursue higher education opportunities in Brazil.

The CELPE-Bras training stream, in particular, targets students who intend to sit for the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners, the official language test recognised by Brazil’s Ministry of Education.

LASUCAS explained that proficiency in Portuguese is often a prerequisite for securing placements under bilateral scholarship programmes offered by the Brazilian government.

The centre noted, however, that while it provides the necessary academic preparation, the awarding of such scholarships is managed directly by Brazilian authorities and partner institutions.

Prospective candidates are advised to visit the university’s Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies or its official website for detailed application guidelines, entry requirements, and submission deadlines.
