Lagos, August 11, 2025
Workers at Lagos State University (LASU) have suspended their ongoing strike action, announcing a new date for resumption following negotiations with university management and government representatives.
The decision to call off the strike came after a series of dialogue sessions addressing key workers’ demands, including improved welfare packages, payment of outstanding salaries, and better working conditions. The union leaders expressed optimism that ongoing discussions would yield positive results before the new resumption date.
The resumed academic activities are scheduled to begin on August 18, 2025, allowing the university to prepare for the smooth continuation of lectures and administrative functions. LASU management welcomed the suspension, pledging to work collaboratively with staff unions to resolve outstanding issues promptly.
Students and stakeholders have also expressed relief at the development, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted academic calendars for institutional progress. Both parties have agreed to maintain open communication to prevent future disruptions.
