Lagos, July 18, 2025 — The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has confirmed that two women, Margaret Solomon (29) and Onyia Elizabeth (42), will face prosecution for allegedly dumping waste illegally and violating the state’s environmental regulations.
The agency stated that both suspects were apprehended during one of its routine enforcement exercises aimed at curbing indiscriminate waste disposal, a practice that continues to undermine the government’s efforts at maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
According to LAWMA officials, the duo was caught in the act of disposing refuse at unauthorized locations in defiance of the state’s waste management laws. The agency noted that their actions posed significant environmental and public health risks, especially during this season of heavy rainfall when blocked drainage channels could result in flooding.
“LAWMA will not tolerate acts that endanger public health and the environment. These individuals will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others who disregard proper waste disposal procedures,” the agency stated.
The suspects will be arraigned before a magistrate court under the relevant sections of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law. LAWMA also reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance for environmental infractions and urged residents to engage only accredited PSP operators for waste disposal.
The agency encouraged citizens to report incidents of illegal dumping and join efforts in supporting the state government’s agenda for a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
