Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly shown interest in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they intensify efforts to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
According to a report by GIVEMESPORT, the name of the Napoli forward was mentioned during a high-level transfer strategy meeting at Liverpool last week. The club is said to be seeking a proven goalscorer to lead the line for new manager Arne Slot, with Osimhen emerging as a potential target.
“Sources have informed GMS that Osimhen’s name has cropped up since Liverpool turned their attentions towards recruiting a top striker,” the report stated. “However, his wage demands remain a significant stumbling block, and Galatasaray are currently leading the race after the Nigerian enjoyed a prolific loan spell with them during the 2024/25 campaign.”
Osimhen, 26, had an outstanding season on loan at Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs expressing interest in securing his services permanently as he prepares for a long-anticipated departure from Napoli.
Despite the strong interest from Liverpool, sources close to the player’s camp suggest Galatasaray are the favourites to complete a deal. Osimhen is currently back home in Nigeria on holiday but remains open to exploring opportunities in Europe’s top leagues.
His high wage demands, reportedly up to £400,000 per week, may prove to be a challenge for Premier League clubs. Osimhen had earlier turned down a lucrative £650,000-per-week offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, opting instead to focus on testing himself at the highest level of European football.
However, there are suggestions that Osimhen may be willing to lower his salary expectations in order to facilitate a move to the Premier League, which could keep Liverpool and other English clubs in contention.
Liverpool’s interest could further intensify if the club finalizes the expected departure of striker Darwin Núñez, who has struggled for consistency. Selling Núñez could free up funds and squad space for Osimhen to become the focal point of Arne Slot’s new-look attack.
While Galatasaray continue to push for a permanent deal following Osimhen’s successful loan spell, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on developments, with insiders suggesting a formal approach could be made if the conditions are right.
Osimhen remains one of the hottest names in the summer transfer window, and his next move is set to be one of the most closely watched deals of the off-season.
