On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, a major safety incident was narrowly averted in Niger State when a tanker transporting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) overturned at Saidawa Junction, Sabon Wuse. The vehicle, bearing registration number T-14240LA, was navigating the route when it suddenly lost stability and tipped over, sparking immediate concern due to the hazardous nature of its content.
Reacting swiftly to the incident, operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in coordination with the Niger State Fire Service, activated emergency response protocols to manage the situation. The teams promptly cordoned off the area and diverted vehicular movement from the accident scene to prevent further risk to motorists and residents in the vicinity.
According to preliminary assessments by emergency personnel on the ground, there was no leakage from the tanker, and no casualties were recorded. However, the area remained under surveillance for several hours while efforts were made to stabilise the vehicle and ensure that all safety precautions were in place before clearing the scene.
FRSC officials commended the timely intervention of first responders and reiterated the importance of road safety compliance, particularly for vehicles transporting volatile substances. The Corps also urged tanker operators to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and carry out regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such occurrences.
The incident serves as a reminder of the inherent dangers posed by the transportation of hazardous materials and the critical role of coordinated emergency response in safeguarding lives and property on Nigerian roads.
