LPPC Confers SAN Rank on 57 Legal Practitioners

Abuja, July 25, 2025 — The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the elevation of 57 distinguished lawyers to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), marking another milestone in the advancement of legal excellence and recognition of merit within the Nigerian legal profession.

The announcement was made in Abuja on Thursday by the Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hajo Bello, following the committee’s plenary session. The newly conferred SANs include both advocates in active litigation and academicians who have made significant contributions to legal scholarship.

The LPPC, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, stated that the elevation followed a rigorous selection process that assessed the applicants’ competence, integrity, and contributions to the legal profession. The committee noted that the conferment of the SAN title is not merely ceremonial but a recognition of exceptional legal distinction and commitment to the rule of law.

This year’s list comprises 57 successful candidates out of hundreds who applied, signifying the committee’s continued emphasis on excellence and meritocracy. The new appointees are expected to be formally sworn in during the commencement of the 2025/2026 Legal Year in September.

The elevation has been widely praised across the legal community, with many noting that it reflects the LPPC’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal practice in Nigeria.
