The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC) has strengthened its engagement with stakeholders in the creative and cultural industry through a sensitisation workshop aimed at fostering deeper collaboration and policy alignment.
Held on Tuesday in Lagos, the workshop brought together artists, cultural entrepreneurs, media practitioners, and other key players in the creative economy to discuss opportunities, challenges, and strategic interventions required to grow the sector in line with the state’s developmental goals.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the LSCAC, Mrs. Idowu Johnson, emphasized the state’s commitment to repositioning the creative sector as a viable economic contributor. She noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration recognizes the vital role of arts and culture in tourism development, youth empowerment, and job creation.
“We are here to listen, engage, and co-create strategies that will position Lagos as Africa’s creative capital. This sensitisation workshop is part of our inclusive approach to drive sustainable growth in the creative ecosystem,” Johnson stated.
Participants at the workshop commended the council’s initiative, stressing the need for streamlined regulations, access to funding, and infrastructure to support local talent. They also advocated for stronger intellectual property rights enforcement and investment in digital platforms to export Nigerian content globally.
The workshop concluded with a pledge from the LSCAC to institutionalize stakeholder engagement and introduce policies that will ease business operations for creatives while preserving the cultural heritage of Lagos State.
