President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate employment of 200 outstanding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service, in recognition of their exceptional performance during the 2020 to 2023 service years.
The president gave the directive on Tuesday while addressing attendees at the NYSC Honours Award ceremony in Abuja, where the 200 corps members were celebrated for demonstrating commitment, innovation, and patriotism in their primary assignments.
Alongside the job placements, President Tinubu also approved a ₦250,000 cash reward for each of the honorees, underscoring the government’s appreciation of their selfless contributions to national development across sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and rural infrastructure.
In his remarks, the president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development, national unity, and excellence, noting that the NYSC scheme remains a vital platform for promoting national integration and leadership grooming.
“We must reward excellence and inspire patriotism. These young Nigerians represent the best of our values and aspirations,” Tinubu said, urging all Nigerian youths to emulate the awardees’ dedication and service.
The Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, praised the awardees for distinguishing themselves despite the challenges faced during their national service. She said the government would continue to empower the youth and reposition the NYSC scheme for greater impact.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, also expressed gratitude to the president for the honour bestowed on the corps members and reiterated the scheme’s resolve to continue producing responsible, service-driven Nigerian graduates.
