Madueke Joins Arsenal in £48.5m Transfer From Chelsea

Arsenal have completed the signing of England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth £48.5 million, with the fee expected to rise to just over £50 million with add-ons.

The 23-year-old left Chelsea’s camp at the Club World Cup in the United States before their 3–0 victory over Paris Saint Germain in the final to finalise his switch to the Emirates Stadium. Madueke has signed a five-year contract with the Gunners, becoming their fourth major signing of the summer.

“Humbled and blessed to be here. Thank you to everyone that made this possible,” he wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start to repay the faith shown in me. It’s going to be so special.”

Madueke joined Chelsea from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for £30 million. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he scored 20 goals in 92 appearances and helped Chelsea win the UEFA Conference League last season. Before moving abroad, he was part of Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur’s youth setups.

The winger made his senior England debut in August 2024 and recently provided the assist for Harry Kane’s winner in a 1–0 World Cup qualifier victory over Andorra.

Reacting to the signing, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said Madueke’s arrival would significantly boost the club’s attacking options. “Noni is an exciting and powerful young player, with consistently high-quality performances and numbers in recent seasons,” Arteta told the club’s website. “He is one of the most talented wide forwards in the Premier League. At just 23, he already brings experience of both club and international football and he knows the Premier League very well. Having seen his quality up close, we are really excited he is joining us.”

Madueke’s move sparked mixed reactions among Arsenal fans earlier in the month when news of the club’s interest in the Chelsea star broke. A petition titled #NoToMadueke attracted more than 5000 signatures, while murals outside the Emirates Stadium were reportedly defaced with graffiti demanding Arteta’s resignation.

Despite the controversy, Arsenal have continued their recruitment drive. Madueke becomes the club’s second signing from Chelsea this summer after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Midfielders Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad have also been added to the squad. The Gunners are said to be close to completing deals for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.
