Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has extended warm congratulations to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, His Eminence Sheikh Abdulganiyy Abubakry Agbotomokekere, as the revered Islamic cleric marks his 90th birthday. The governor described the nonagenarian as an embodiment of piety, leadership, and commitment to communal development, especially within the Islamic community in Yorubaland.
In a statement released on Sunday and made available to journalists, Governor Makinde paid glowing tribute to Sheikh Agbotomokekere, who also holds the esteemed positions of Grand Imam of Oyo State and Grand Patron of the League of Imams and Alfas of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States. “Today, we are grateful to God for the life of our Baba, His Eminence Sheikh Abdulganiyy Abubakry Agbotomokekere, as he reaches the remarkable age of 90. He has been an inspirational religious figure, not just in Ibadanland, but throughout Oyo State and the wider Yoruba-speaking parts of the country,” the statement read.
Governor Makinde acknowledged the influential role Sheikh Agbotomokekere has played for decades in promoting Islamic teachings, moral discipline, and harmonious coexistence among diverse faith groups.
