August 26, 2025 — Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially proceeded on leave and temporarily transferred executive responsibilities to his deputy, Bayo Lawal.
The handover, confirmed on Monday, is in line with constitutional provisions ensuring seamless governance in the governor’s absence. While the duration of the leave was not immediately disclosed, sources within the state government assured that administrative duties will continue without disruption under the acting governor.
Makinde’s decision reflects his administration’s commitment to transparency and continuity, avoiding any governance vacuum. Political observers note that such transitions have become increasingly important for sustaining public confidence in leadership, especially in a state as politically vibrant as Oyo.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal is expected to oversee key government functions, pending Makinde’s return.
