Ibadan, Nigeria, July 25, 2025 – Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has unveiled an ambitious masterplan aimed at transforming the state’s tourism landscape through the establishment of a new tourism hub designed to attract global visitors and drive sustainable economic growth.
Speaking during the official presentation at the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan, Governor Makinde noted that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader strategy to reposition Oyo as Nigeria’s premier cultural and historical destination. The newly unveiled plan, according to the governor, will harness the state’s rich heritage, unique geography, and historical landmarks for tourism development.
“This masterplan is a bold step towards turning our cultural assets into viable economic drivers,” Governor Makinde stated. “We are leveraging our natural endowments and cultural history to create a world-class tourism hub that will not only boost our economy but also create jobs and empower local communities.”
The plan, which was developed in collaboration with local and international consultants, outlines key infrastructural developments across key tourism corridors in the state, including the revitalization of existing tourist attractions such as the Bower’s Tower, Ado Awaye Suspended Lake, and the Old Oyo National Park. It also includes proposals for modern transport links, eco-tourism parks, hospitality facilities, and a cultural museum complex.
Governor Makinde assured stakeholders that the government will work closely with private investors and traditional institutions to ensure inclusive and sustainable development. He added that the project will be backed by enabling laws and environmental safeguards to protect cultural and ecological assets.
Tourism and culture experts present at the event applauded the governor’s vision, describing it as a transformative approach capable of repositioning Oyo State on the global tourism map. Community leaders and industry investors also pledged their support, expressing optimism that the plan would enhance local participation and attract international recognition.
The launch of the tourism hub masterplan marks a significant milestone in Oyo State’s quest to diversify its economy and harness the untapped potential of its historical and natural heritage.
