Malami Dumps APC for ADC, Laments Governance Failures by FG

Breaking ranks with the ruling party, former Attorney‑General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on Wednesday officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a press statement shared on social media, Malami explained that his decision followed “wide consultations and deep personal reflection,” driven not by anger or ambition but by “love for our nation” and concern over its current trajectory

Malami decried the worsening state of insecurity, economic collapse, and governance by propaganda under the current administration. “Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes, especially in the North. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives while the government prioritises politics over the safety of its citizens,” he lamented, stressing that basic food prices have tripled, jobs are disappearing and hope is fading for many youths

He sharply criticised the FG for substituting sound administration with political positioning, asserting that appointments and policies are now driven by loyalty rather than national interest—a trend he can no longer support

Malami believes the ADC—and the broader opposition coalition that includes former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Nasir El‑Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark—offers a genuine platform anchored on justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal

In formally joining the ADC on July 2, 2025, Malami declared his commitment to using the party’s platform to help rescue Nigeria from further decline and urged citizens to align behind the coalition’s shared vision for a better nation

Nigeria now witnesses another high-profile defection to the ADC, reinforcing the opposition’s efforts to counter what Malami called the “urgent need to rescue our country.”
