MAN Hails Tinubu’s ‘Nigeria First’ Policy as Long-Awaited Victory for Local Manufacturers

July 23, 2025 – The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has applauded the recent directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu mandating all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize the patronage of locally produced goods. Describing the move as a historic milestone, MAN said it is the fruition of years of persistent advocacy for government-backed support of local manufacturers.

In a statement issued by the association’s President, Mr. Francis Meshioye, the policy—branded as the ‘Nigeria First’ initiative—represents a bold and welcome step toward reviving the country’s industrial sector and reducing dependency on imported products.

“This directive is not just timely—it is the long-awaited fruit of consistent dialogue and advocacy efforts by MAN and other stakeholders over the years,” Meshioye stated. “It affirms the federal government’s recognition of the crucial role of indigenous manufacturers in national development.”

The ‘Nigeria First’ policy instructs all MDAs to source products and services from domestic manufacturers and service providers as a default, unless no local alternative exists. This is expected to boost industrial productivity, create employment opportunities, and stimulate inclusive economic growth.

MAN expressed optimism that the directive will not only strengthen the manufacturing base of Nigeria but also encourage investment in local industries, enhance value addition, and promote the competitiveness of Nigerian-made products.

Meshioye further urged the government to ensure effective implementation and monitoring mechanisms, warning that policies without enforcement risk becoming mere paperwork. He also called for tax incentives, infrastructure support, and improved access to credit for manufacturers to fully leverage the benefits of the policy.

The ‘Nigeria First’ policy aligns with the Tinubu administration’s broader economic reform agenda focused on self-reliance, sustainable job creation, and economic diversification.
