Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy Parts Ways with Relegated Leicester City

Leicester, UK – June 2025
Dutch manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has officially stepped down as head coach of Leicester City following the club’s relegation from the English Premier League at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

The former Manchester United striker, who took over the Foxes in October 2024, was unable to steer the team to safety despite a spirited second-half campaign. Leicester finished 18th on the league table, marking a disappointing return to the Championship just two seasons after their Premier League title glory in 2016.

In a statement released by the club on Tuesday, Leicester City confirmed Van Nistelrooy’s departure was by mutual consent, thanking him for his professionalism and leadership during a challenging period.

“Ruud brought great experience and commitment to the role, and we are grateful for his efforts. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” the statement read.

Van Nistelrooy also released a message via his official social media, expressing disappointment at the relegation but appreciation for the support he received.

“It’s been a tough journey, but I’m proud of the players and staff who gave everything. Leicester is a special club with passionate fans. I wish them a swift return to the Premier League,” he said.

The club has begun the search for a new manager, with reports linking several Championship-experienced coaches to the vacancy.
