The Lagos chapter of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association has expressed full support for the newly inaugurated United Kingdom, Ireland, and Europe chapter of the institution’s alumni network, describing the development as a significant step toward global collaboration.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration ceremony, which held over the weekend in London, Chairman of the Lagos chapter, Gafar Odubote, hailed the creation of the Diaspora arm as a milestone achievement. He commended the dedication of the newly elected executives and praised their commitment to uniting MAPOLY graduates across international borders while expanding the institution’s global visibility.
The new chapter is led by Kunle Orekoya as Chairman, with Gbenga Yeku as Secretary, Deji Abioye as Treasurer, Margaret James serving as Welfare Officer and Ireland Coordinator, and Razak Ashiru as an executive member.
Odubote noted that the collaboration between the Lagos and UK chapters would foster stronger ties between local and overseas alumni communities, creating long-term benefits that include professional development, mutual empowerment, and institutional advancement. He called on the newly inaugurated body to design and implement impactful programmes, especially in the area of skills development, mentorship, and networking for both alumni and current students of the polytechnic.
He further encouraged the chapter to establish a comprehensive online directory and communication platform to ease the flow of information and strengthen engagement among members, particularly those in the Diaspora. According to him, such a tool would facilitate seamless collaboration across all chapters of MAPOLY’s growing global alumni network.
National President of MAPALUM, Ezekiel Obasanya, also lent his voice to the celebration, noting that the formation of the UK, Ireland, and Europe chapter aligns with the association’s vision of expanding opportunities for alumni. He listed four major areas where members could benefit — including entrepreneurship, individual development, community involvement, and international partnerships. Obasanya congratulated the new executive members, applauding their resilience and commitment in establishing the chapter. He assured them of the National Executive Council’s continued support.
Former National President, Olalekan Otun, speaking on behalf of the Council of Distinguished Alumni (CODA), pledged to facilitate connections between MAPOLY alumni in the Diaspora and the newly established chapter. He also mentioned plans to link them with the USA and North America chapter, which is currently at a provisional stage.
Otun emphasized the importance of establishing active digital channels and social media communities to draw in more members from across various graduating sets and regions, ensuring a robust and inclusive network.
The inauguration of the UK, Ireland, and Europe chapter is seen as a key turning point for MAPOLY’s alumni engagement strategy, paving the way for broader international collaboration and enhancing the institution’s global footprint.
