Real Madrid survived a scare against Leganes, coming from behind to secure a 3-2 victory at the Bernabeu, thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s winner.
The French striker scored his 33rd goal of the season, a well-crafted free-kick 15 minutes from time, to give Real Madrid the three points. Mbappe had earlier opened the scoring with a ‘Panenka’ penalty in the 32nd minute, but Leganes equalized within a minute through Diego Garcia.
The visitors took a surprise lead before halftime, courtesy of Dani Raba’s strike. However, Real Madrid equalized two minutes into the second half through Jude Bellingham’s eighth league goal of the season.
The win takes Real Madrid level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga, although the Catalan giants have a game in hand. Real Madrid’s victory was all the more impressive given the absence of key players Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and Federico Valverde.
With the win, Real Madrid keeps the pressure on Barcelona, who face Girona on Sunday in their game in hand.
