NIMO, ANAMBRA STATE – A tragic incident has shaken Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area following the abduction and brutal killing of High Chief Ogbuefi Ozo Nnayelugo na Nimo, affectionately known as High Chief Gbafankiti, a respected traditional leader and member of the Nimo royal cabinet.
The 70‑year‑old chief was reportedly seized at gunpoint from his farmland by masked kidnappers who fled the scene, leaving shocked farm workers behind . Despite the family reportedly paying a ransom of ₦15 million, the abductors callously killed him, leaving his body, mangled with machete wounds to the head, dumped back on the farm .
“This is barbaric and senseless,” one distraught villager said, condemning the killers for taking the life of an esteemed elder even after ransom payment .
Security operatives have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. However, the Anambra State Police Command has not released an official statement on the case. The tragic killing has ignited outrage, with community leaders demanding urgent action from authorities to apprehend those responsible and curb escalating violence in the region .
The late High Chief Gbafankiti was widely revered in Nimo for his wisdom, generosity, and efforts in promoting peace and community development.
