The Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, at the Government House in Maiduguri. The visit comes ahead of the official commissioning of multiple development projects executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in the state.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Ahmadu emphasized the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to regional integration and equitable national development through the newly established Ministry of Regional Development (MRD). He said the ministry was created to provide strategic oversight for regional development commissions across Nigeria, including the North East, North West, and North Central.
According to the Minister, the projects to be commissioned are in line with the North East Stabilization and Development Plan (NESDP) and the Borno State 25-Year Development Master Plan. He noted that key initiatives include the construction and rehabilitation of educational and health institutions, improved security infrastructure, and ICT empowerment centres.
Among the highlighted projects are the newly built male and female wards at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, the modern ICT Centre at the Agency for Mass Literacy, and a new police station in Konduga—all aimed at enhancing the standard of living and security in Borno.
Governor Zulum, while welcoming the minister, expressed deep appreciation for the Federal Government’s continued interventions through the NEDC. He reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to collaborate with federal agencies on projects that deliver sustainable impact, particularly in areas such as healthcare, power supply, road development, and security.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts to stabilize the insurgency-affected North East region and accelerate recovery through coordinated investments in critical infrastructure and human development. The Minister is expected to lead the commissioning of several projects in the days ahead, marking a significant step in rebuilding the region.
