The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, alongside the Minister of State, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, on Friday received the newly appointed Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Hon. Medinat Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The courtesy visit was part of efforts to foster collaboration between the Ministry and the NSCC toward improving the welfare and inclusion of senior citizens in national development programmes.
In his welcome remarks, Professor Yilwatda congratulated the new Director General on her appointment and emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life for Nigeria’s elderly population.
“We are delighted to welcome you. The Ministry is committed to working closely with the National Senior Citizens Centre to implement programmes that provide dignity, care, and economic inclusion for our senior citizens,” he stated.
Hon. Akinyemi-Obe expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and outlined her vision for repositioning the Centre. She highlighted the need for robust policy implementation, data-driven planning, and inter-agency cooperation to address the growing needs of the ageing population.
Dr. Sununu reiterated the strategic importance of the NSCC under the broader humanitarian mandate of the Ministry, assuring the Director General of the Ministry’s full support.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing readiness to strengthen partnerships aimed at achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda’s social protection goals, particularly as they pertain to older Nigerians.
