MOJEC Applauds Tinubu’s Import Ban, Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria’s Industrial Growth

MOJEC International, a leading indigenous meter manufacturing company, has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s “Nigeria First Policy,” describing the move to ban the importation of products that can be produced locally as bold, visionary, and transformative for the country’s industrial and economic landscape.

In a statement released on Friday, the Chairman of MOJEC, Mrs. Mojisola Abdul, praised the policy as a strategic initiative that will unlock Nigeria’s vast industrial potential, boost local production, and position the country on the path to economic self-reliance. She noted that the directive, which prioritises locally made goods and services in government procurement, is aligned with MOJEC’s longstanding commitment to local content and national capacity building.

“President Tinubu’s ‘Nigeria First Policy’ is a critical step towards achieving national industrial rebirth and economic independence. As a proudly indigenous metering and energy solutions provider, MOJEC International wholeheartedly commends this policy and stands ready to support its successful implementation,” Abdul said.

Highlighting MOJEC’s contributions to the power sector, Abdul said the company has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s metering revolution for over two decades. With a proven track record of delivering millions of meters through various government-backed initiatives, she emphasized that MOJEC has demonstrated both reliability and scale.

According to her, the company deployed over 600,000 Non-Maximum Demand (NMD) and Maximum Demand (MD) meters nationwide before the privatisation of the power sector. From 2013 to 2018, under the CAPMI and Vendor Financing schemes, MOJEC financed and installed over 1 million meters, while under the NMMP Phase 0 and MAP Phases I & II from 2019 to date, the company has supplied more than 1.2 million meters in collaboration with various electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across Nigeria.

She also revealed that MOJEC has pioneered the deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Meter Data Management Systems in the country, having delivered over 3 million smart NMD meters and installed more than 200,000 MD smart meters—representing about 60 percent of the total meters deployed in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

In support of its backward integration strategy, MOJEC operates a state-of-the-art plastic manufacturing subsidiary, one of the largest in Nigeria, with an annual capacity to produce up to 2 million meter boxes. The company is also diversifying through its renewable energy subsidiary, Virtuitis Solaris (VSolaris), which focuses on expanding clean energy access in off-grid and underserved communities.

A major project under this initiative is the imminent commissioning of an 880kWp Solar Hybrid Isolated Mini-grid serving seven communities across Langtang South, Shendam, and Bokkos Local Government Areas in Plateau State. The project is being executed under the Rural Electrification Agency’s Nigeria Electrification Project.

Commenting on the development, the General Manager of VSolaris, Ayodeji Oladeji, said the project represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s push for sustainable energy access. “We are not just bringing power to these communities, we’re unlocking new economic and social opportunities for businesses, schools, and healthcare systems. The mini-grid is expected to power thousands of homes and businesses, enabling economic activities, education, and healthcare services,” he said.

The statement concluded with a strong endorsement of the “Nigeria First Policy” as a rallying call for economic self-reliance, technological innovation, and inclusive national development. MOJEC reaffirmed its readiness to support the policy’s full implementation and continue expanding its impact across both urban and rural communities.

“As MOJEC continues to scale its footprint in Nigeria’s power and energy sector, this policy provides the necessary momentum to drive industrial growth, create jobs, and ensure power truly gets to the people, by Nigerians, for Nigerians,” it said.
