Lagos, Nigeria | September 22, 2025
Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has confirmed that some of its subscribers in Lagos experienced a network outage on Sunday, September 21, 2025, disrupting voice and data services across parts of the state.
In a statement issued by the company’s Corporate Communications Unit, MTN attributed the disruption to a technical fault currently being addressed by its engineering team. The operator assured customers that restoration efforts were already underway, with services expected to normalize within hours.
“We are aware of the service disruptions affecting some of our valued customers in parts of Lagos. Our engineers are working tirelessly to resolve the issue and restore full connectivity. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding,” the statement read.
Subscribers took to social media platforms earlier in the day to complain about the outage, with many reporting difficulties in making calls, sending messages, and accessing the internet.
MTN, which remains Nigeria’s largest telecom operator with over 70 million subscribers nationwide, reiterated its commitment to improving service quality and minimizing downtime in line with global standards.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has yet to issue an official statement on the disruption, but industry watchers say the regulator is monitoring the situation closely to ensure compliance with service-level obligations.
