July 10, 2025 | Lagos, Nigeria — The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has announced plans to convene the 7th National Council on AIDS (NCA) in Lagos, in response to evolving global aid dynamics affecting HIV programmes.
The event, scheduled for early August, will gather high-level stakeholders—including government officials, civil society, donors, and development partners—to assess Nigeria’s progress in HIV control and chart strategies for the National HIV Sustainability Agenda, especially amid emerging challenges posed by global financing shifts .
Dr. Temitope Ilori, NACA’s Director-General, emphasized that with external funding under pressure, it is vital for Nigeria to accelerate domestic efforts to sustain and expand free access to treatment, preventive measures, and community-based HIV care. He described the meeting as a “coordination hub” to align sector-wide efforts against the backdrop of changing global aid .
This year’s agenda, themed “Advancing National HIV Sustainability Agenda in the Changing Global Policy on Aid,” will review past achievements and set technical direction for future interventions across prevention, treatment, and structural support systems supporting people living with HIV .
