The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to the defence of the nation, stating that the Force remains ready, alert, and determined to protect Nigeria against all threats, at all times.
Air Marshal Abubakar gave this assurance while addressing personnel and dignitaries during the commemoration of the Nigerian Air Force’s 61st anniversary, an event held to celebrate the operational milestones and institutional resilience of one of Africa’s most formidable air power institutions.
Speaking at the event, the CAS lauded the dedication and sacrifices of NAF personnel across the country and emphasized that the Force continues to play a critical role in national security, particularly in the ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry, and other emerging threats to Nigeria’s sovereignty.
“Our resolve to secure the territorial integrity of Nigeria remains absolute,” the Air Chief declared. “Every officer, airman, and airwoman in the Nigerian Air Force stands firm in our oath to defend this country. We are prepared, vigilant, and proactive, every day.”
He also noted that the 61st anniversary is not just a moment of celebration, but an opportunity to reflect on the journey of transformation that NAF has undergone since its establishment in 1964. From a modest beginning, the Air Force has evolved into a sophisticated and combat-ready force, contributing significantly to joint military operations, intelligence surveillance, and humanitarian missions across Nigeria.
Under Air Marshal Abubakar’s leadership, the NAF has deepened its focus on fleet modernisation, personnel welfare, and strategic partnerships with international allies. He disclosed that recent acquisitions of modern air assets and intensified training of air crews are already boosting NAF’s capacity to respond swiftly to security challenges across all theatres of operation.
The anniversary activities also featured flypasts, drills, and an exhibition of NAF’s technological innovations in aircraft maintenance and indigenous drone development, further underscoring its growing self-reliance in defence capabilities.
Dignitaries at the event included top military commanders, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, members of the diplomatic corps, and families of fallen heroes, who were honoured for their service to the nation.
As Nigeria continues to confront complex security dynamics, the Nigerian Air Force has once again reaffirmed its role as a pillar of national defence, bold, prepared, and unwavering in duty.
