In a renewed and decisive offensive against terrorism in Nigeria’s North-East, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a significant blow to the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad faction of Boko Haram, executing a series of precision airstrikes that dismantled key insurgent strongholds in Borno State.
The coordinated air raids, which took place on Saturday, July 6, 2025, were carried out under the auspices of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK). According to the Nigerian Air Force, the operation specifically targeted Wa Jahode and Loghpere—two notorious terrorist enclaves deeply embedded in the rocky terrain of the Mandara Mountains, a region that straddles the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
The strikes were launched following actionable intelligence gathered from multiple Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) sorties, which confirmed heightened insurgent activity in the area. Surveillance imagery revealed clusters of terrorist infrastructure, including compounds flying black flags and equipped with solar panels, signalling an increase in logistics operations and the movement of senior commanders within the JAS faction.
In a statement issued on Monday, Air Commodore Edward Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, said the mission was carefully planned and executed with surgical precision to eliminate strategic threats. He disclosed that several fortified terrorist installations—including command centres, logistics hubs, and makeshift armories—were completely destroyed during the operation. He also confirmed that multiple insurgents were neutralised in the process.
“These enclaves, hidden in the difficult terrain of the Mandara Mountains, have long posed serious security concerns to both Nigeria and neighbouring Cameroon,” Ejodame stated. “The recent intelligence confirmed a resurgence of terrorist activities, particularly the stockpiling of weapons and the presence of high-ranking Boko Haram commanders, prompting the Air Force to act swiftly.”
He added that the operation dealt a severe blow to the terrorists’ operational capability, crippling their logistics chain and impeding their ability to mount coordinated offensives in the region.
The Air Force assured that it remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting ground troops and eradicating all threats to national security. Ejodame reaffirmed the military’s dedication to restoring peace and stability across all conflict-prone regions of the country.
