The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under the ongoing Operation FANSAR YAMMA Sector 1, has conducted a series of targeted airstrikes against terrorist elements in Niger State, effectively neutralising scores of insurgents and thwarting planned attacks on civilian populations. The precision strikes were carried out over a three-day period, from Tuesday to Thursday, in close collaboration with ground forces and other security agencies.
According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the strikes followed credible intelligence reports indicating the presence and movements of armed terrorists in Kakihun and Kumbashi communities, both of which have been sites of recent attacks and large-scale cattle rustling incidents.
The coordinated offensive saw the Air Component of Operation FANSAR YAMMA execute multiple waves of precision bombing raids, successfully dismantling the terrorists’ logistics infrastructure and forestalling any attempt at regrouping. Intelligence gathered post-strike confirmed the neutralisation of several fighters, with key operational strongholds significantly weakened.
Air Commodore Gabkwet noted that the successful execution of the mission underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to swift, professional, and intelligence-driven operations in its efforts to eliminate security threats and protect innocent lives. He added that the seamless cooperation between the NAF, Nigerian Army, and other security agencies continues to play a vital role in dismantling terrorist networks across troubled regions.
Residents of the affected communities have since reported improved security, with local leaders expressing relief at the timely intervention by the military. The Nigerian Air Force reaffirmed its resolve to uphold its constitutional mandate by continuing to provide close air support to ground troops, while also maintaining the highest standards of precision and accountability to prevent civilian casualties.
The recent air operations in Niger State serve as another indication of the armed forces’ intensified efforts to restore peace and stability, particularly in areas previously plagued by insurgency and banditry. As operations continue, the Nigerian Air Force has assured citizens that every action taken is guided by the imperative to protect lives, secure national assets, and ensure peace returns to all corners of the country.
