In a decisive move to protect public health, NAFDAC operatives, led by Principal Regulatory Officer Shamsuddeen Mani, yesterday sealed off the illegal herbal medicine production facility known as Shifa’Unnur, situated in Mararaba Jos, Igabi LGA of Kaduna State. The agency’s swift operation, based on credible intelligence, uncovered an unregistered setup operating without any approval or adherence to minimum regulatory standards.
Mani emphasized that the site’s layout was both unsanitary and concealed, with substandard equipment that rendered any products manufactured there unsafe for human consumption. The lack of regulatory oversight meant that there was no way to guarantee the safety, quality, or efficacy of the items produced.
In the course of the raid, NAFDAC seized herbal products valued at approximately ₦5 million, all of which were unregistered and are slated for destruction. The premises remain sealed as investigations continue into the operation’s origins and extent.
The agency reiterated its unwavering commitment to public safety, assuring Nigerians that it would continue to pursue violators and clamp down on facilities that flout food and drug regulations, regardless of location or scale.
