NAFDAC Issues Alert on Falsified Healmoxy Capsules Found in Cameroon and Central African Republic

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public health alert concerning falsified batches of Healmoxy Capsules 500mg discovered in circulation within Cameroon and the Central African Republic (CAR).

According to NAFDAC’s latest advisory released under its #NafdacALERTS initiative, the World Health Organization (WHO) had earlier flagged the counterfeit antibiotics, which are being sold under the guise of Healmoxy Capsules, an amoxicillin-based medication commonly used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections.

NAFDAC noted that the falsified products have no therapeutic value, pose serious health risks, and could lead to treatment failure, drug resistance, or fatality in patients.

The agency warns that:

The falsified batches bear fake labeling and incorrect batch numbers.

The manufacturing and expiry dates have been manipulated to appear valid.

The products were not manufactured or supplied by the genuine producer, despite bearing their name.

Health professionals and the general public are advised to:

Avoid purchasing or using Healmoxy Capsules 500mg from unauthorized or unverified sources.

Report suspicious or substandard medical products to NAFDAC via NAFDAC Med Safety App or call the NAFDAC contact center.

Check all medications for proper NAFDAC registration numbers, expiry dates, and packaging authenticity.

NAFDAC reassures Nigerians of ongoing surveillance across pharmacies, health centers, and markets nationwide to prevent the entry and distribution of the falsified antibiotics within Nigeria.

Consumers and healthcare providers are urged to remain vigilant and collaborate with regulatory authorities to ensure the safety of the national drug supply chain.
