The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued Public Alert No. 20/2025, warning Nigerians about the circulation of an unregistered cosmetic product identified as “Fair Child Soap” in markets across the country.
According to the agency, the soap is currently being sold without proper NAFDAC registration or approval, raising serious concerns about its safety, quality, and efficacy. Consumers are advised to exercise extreme caution and to refrain from purchasing or using the product, pending further investigation.
In a statement released from its headquarters in Abuja, NAFDAC stressed that Fair Child Soap has not undergone the necessary regulatory scrutiny, and as such, may contain harmful ingredients or contaminants capable of causing adverse health reactions such as skin irritation, rashes, or long-term dermatological issues.
The Agency further emphasized that the presence of unregistered personal care products poses a direct threat to public health and violates Nigeria’s regulatory laws. It urged traders, distributors, and online sellers to immediately withdraw the product from their shelves and online platforms to prevent sanctions.
Consumers who may have already purchased or used Fair Child Soap are encouraged to:
Discontinue use immediately;
Report any adverse reactions to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the Med-Safety App;
Submit samples or information to assist ongoing investigations.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians and assured the public that it is actively working with enforcement agencies to identify and remove all unregistered Fair Child Soap products from circulation.
For verification of regulated products, the public is advised to check the NAFDAC registration number on product labels or visit www.nafdac.gov.ng.
