NAHCON Completes Airlift of Nigerian Pilgrims for 2025 Hajj

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has successfully concluded the airlift of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. The final flight, UMZ3440, departed Abuja at 11:38 PM on Wednesday, May 28, carrying 22 pilgrims and 231 officials, including NAHCON Chairman Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, to Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah.

This operation marked the 105th outbound flight from Nigeria, with a total of 41,568 pilgrims transported under the government’s quota. The remaining intending pilgrims from private tour operators are expected to complete their airlift before Saudi Arabia closes its airspace on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Approximately 63,000 Nigerian pilgrims are anticipated to participate in the 2025 Hajj. Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has pledged to lead the Nigerian delegation.

At a press briefing held at the Pilgrims’ Terminal of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Prof. Usman expressed deep appreciation to the media for their patience and consistent support throughout the airlift operation. He acknowledged the vital role of journalists in disseminating timely updates to the Nigerian public, stating, “You’ve been here since morning, waiting for us. Thank you so much.”

The airlift operation was conducted in collaboration with four selected airlines: Max Air, Flynas, Air Peace, and UMZA Aviation Services Limited. These carriers were chosen based on merit, reliability, and proven capacity to ensure the comfort and safety of Nigerian pilgrims.

NAHCON’s successful completion of the airlift operation underscores its commitment to facilitating a smooth and efficient Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims. The Commission continues to work closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the welfare and safety of pilgrims throughout the duration of the pilgrimage.
