NAHCON Reiterates Adherence to Transparency Amidst Public Concerns

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has restated its unwavering commitment to transparency, due process, and accountability in the discharge of its responsibilities, following a series of recent publications in the media casting aspersions on the Commission’s operations and intentions.

In a statement issued by the Commission on Monday, NAHCON acknowledged the circulation of reports containing what it described as “unverified allegations” and speculative commentaries. These reports, the Commission noted, not only misrepresent the facts but also risk misleading the general public, especially stakeholders in the Hajj ecosystem.

NAHCON emphasized that it remains focused on delivering its mandate diligently and will not be distracted by misinformation or media sensationalism.

The Commission highlighted its ongoing reforms aimed at improving service delivery and the overall Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims. These reforms, it said, are being implemented in strict compliance with established procedures and financial regulations. NAHCON assured the public that every action taken by the Commission is guided by the principles of transparency, integrity, and the public interest.

Reacting to specific claims circulating on some platforms, the Commission maintained that all financial transactions related to Hajj operations are subject to rigorous scrutiny by relevant oversight bodies. It added that it has never defaulted in making its records available to auditors and supervisory authorities, including the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation and relevant National Assembly Committees.

While reaffirming its openness to constructive criticism, NAHCON appealed to media houses and the general public to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated claims that could incite public distrust. The Commission reiterated that it remains answerable to Nigerian Muslims, the Federal Government, and Almighty Allah in the discharge of its sacred responsibilities.

The Commission also called on journalists and media platforms to engage in responsible reporting, urging them to verify facts before publication in line with the ethics of the profession. It emphasized that it will continue to work with all stakeholders, including state pilgrims’ welfare boards, licensed tour operators, and the Saudi authorities, to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.

NAHCON concluded by assuring Nigerians that it is not only committed to upholding its mandate but also to doing so with the highest level of accountability and professionalism.
