Nasarawa SUBEB Boss Orders Mass Teacher Redeployment, Recovers Stolen School Furniture

Lafia, Nigeria – June 11, 2025 – In a decisive move aimed at revitalising the state’s basic education system, the Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Muhammad Dan’azumi, has ordered the immediate redeployment of teachers across public schools in the state and announced the recovery of stolen school furniture from unauthorised locations.

Speaking during an unscheduled inspection visit to several primary schools in Karu and Lafia LGAs, Dan’azumi said the redeployment became necessary after the board discovered gross disparities in teacher distribution, with some schools overstaffed while others were struggling with acute shortages.

“We cannot allow a situation where teachers sit idle in some schools while others are crying for staff. The redeployment is aimed at correcting this imbalance and ensuring effective service delivery in our basic education sector,” he stated.

The SUBEB boss also confirmed that in the course of their school monitoring exercise, board officials uncovered dozens of school desks, chairs, and classroom fittings that had been diverted and hidden in private residences and unapproved locations.

Working in collaboration with local security agencies, NSUBEB has since recovered the stolen furniture, some of which belonged to government schools undergoing renovation under the UBEC intervention programme.

Dan’azumi issued a stern warning to anyone found sabotaging public education resources, vowing that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on culprits.

“The government will not tolerate the theft or misuse of educational materials. These items are meant to serve our children and their future. Anyone involved in diverting them is an enemy of progress,” he said.

The board also plans to roll out an audit of facilities and personnel in all primary and junior secondary schools to curb ghost workers, promote accountability, and improve learning conditions across Nasarawa State.

Stakeholders in the education sector have hailed the move, describing it as timely and necessary to rebuild public confidence in the state’s basic education system. Many urged the government to sustain the momentum and prosecute those responsible for the furniture theft to serve as a deterrent.
