In a remarkable show of collaboration and commitment to food safety and Islamic compliance, the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) and the Halal Standard Development and Assessment Trust (HASDAT) hosted a virtual seminar, drawing stakeholders from various sectors to discuss key issues surrounding Halal certification.

The seminar, held via Zoom, kicked off with a welcome address by the President of NASFAT, Alhaji Abdul Waheed Ayodeji, who set the tone for a day filled with insightful discussions on the growing importance of Halal standards in consumer products.

In his opening remarks, Alhaji Monsur Hanga, Chairman of HASDAT, emphasized the strategic importance of Halal compliance in today’s global market. He noted that Halal products attract not only Muslims but also non-Muslims, as many people now associate Halal with cleanliness, safety, and quality.

The keynote sessions featured:

“Fundamentals of the Halal Industry” by Hajiah Afsa Bello, who provided an in-depth overview of the concept of Halal and the operational framework for its implementation. She reiterated that a fundamental requirement of Halal slaughtering is the complete drainage of blood from the animal after it is killed.

“Halal: More Than a Label”, presented by Engr. Abu Salami, explored the ethical, spiritual, and commercial significance of Halal, emphasizing that it is more than just a label—it’s a holistic standard of living and production.

“Boosting Consumer Confidence through Halal Certification” by Dr. M. Ajeyigbe, addressed how certification serves as a trust marker for consumers, especially in multi-faith and diverse markets.

The event concluded with a comprehensive session titled “Overview of Halal Certification Processes”, delivered by Alhaji Sulaiman Olokodana of HASDAT, who outlined the rigorous procedures and standards that businesses must adhere to in order to gain certification.

The seminar reinforced that Halal certification is not only a religious obligation but also a powerful tool for ensuring consumer confidence, quality assurance, and enhanced access to global trade.
