NASFAT and MPAAN Host Ramadan Lecture on Zakat and Tax Reforms.

The Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT) and the Muslim Professional Accountants’ Association of Nigeria (MPAAN) successfully held their Annual Ramadan Lecture, on 15th of march 2025.

Themed “Zakat: A Forgotten Source of Wealth and Nigerian Tax Reform.” The virtual event convened Islamic scholars, financial experts, and Muslim professionals to deliberate on ethical wealth redistribution and the promotion of economic growth in Nigeria.

Key speakers at the event included Ustadh Saheed Salman, Deputy Registrar of Yaba College of Technology, and Akeem Adeboyo Ogunseni, Associate Partner at Ernst & Young (EY). Ustadh Salman emphasized the pivotal role of Zakat in poverty alleviation, while Ogunseni provided a detailed analysis of Nigerian tax reforms, underscoring their importance in fostering nation-building. Both speakers highlighted financial discipline and the relevance of Islamic financial principles in sustainable wealth management.

NASFAT President, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, in his opening remarks, reaffirmed the society’s commitment to spreading Da’wah within the corporate world. He commended the strategic partnership with MPAAN as a valuable initiative to engage Muslim professionals in insightful discussions. AbdulRauf also encouraged active participation in Islamic economic systems as a pathway to achieving sustainable development.

The Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Maroofdeen AbdulAzeez Onike, was represented by Dr. Rasheed Ashamu, a lecturer at Lagos State University, Ojo, and a missioner from NASFAT’s Lagos Zone 2. Ashamu delivered a thought-provoking lecture on Islamic financing, emphasizing the significance of ethical investments and adherence to Islamic principles in wealth management.

Prominent figures within NASFAT, including Vice President 1 Engr. Kamaldeen Olawuyi, National Internal Audit Secretary Alhaji Jamiu Amao, and National Treasury Secretary Alhaji Shakirudeen Balogun, were present at the event. Their participation reinforced NASFAT’s commitment to financial literacy and professional development within the Muslim community.

The leadership of NASFAT, under AbdulRauf, received widespread commendation for promoting Islamic financial values. MPAAN, on its part, encouraged Muslim accountants and professionals to join the association, bolstering the network of ethical financial practitioners across Nigeria.

The event concluded with a shared vision of incorporating Islamic financial principles into policies to support inclusive and sustainable growth.
