Faith-based group calls for reforms, people-centered policies, and stronger civic values
As Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2025, the President of the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Alhaji Dr. Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, has called for a deeper, more people-focused interpretation of democracy, one anchored on justice, transparency, and service to humanity.
Speaking on behalf of NASFAT, a prominent Islamic organization with over 360 locations globally, Dr. AbdulRauf emphasized that democracy must transcend the mere conduct of elections and focus on transforming the daily realities of citizens.
“Let the poor breathe,” he declared, urging political, religious, and civil service leaders to implement policies that ease the burden on ordinary Nigerians and foster equitable development.
In his Democracy Day message, the NASFAT President condemned growing inequality, warning that a system where leaders flourish while the majority suffer contradicts the very ideals of democracy. He called on the federal, state, and local governments to redirect national resources toward impactful reforms that benefit all citizens rather than elite interests.
Dr. AbdulRauf also highlighted the urgent need to revive civic education, strengthen public institutions, and ensure responsible engagement in both traditional and digital media spaces. “Technology must not divide us, it must connect us in truth and understanding,” he stated.
Reaffirming NASFAT’s commitment to national unity, he advocated for interfaith harmony, pluralism, and mutual respect, urging Nigerians to resist divisive rhetoric and work together toward a peaceful and prosperous future.
In a separate message, NASFAT’s Chief Missioner, Imam Maroofdeen AbdulAzeez Onike, offered special prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration. He called on all political leaders to prioritize justice, embrace accountability, and lead with sincerity and God-consciousness in line with the principles of true public service.
The message, signed by NASFAT’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Shamsideen Owolabi Oseni, reinforces the Society’s long-standing advocacy for ethical leadership, citizen empowerment, and nation-building through spiritual and civic awakening.
