The NASFAT Youth kicked off its highly anticipated SDGs-focused hackathon, NasHack for Impact 2025: Clean, Green, and Thrive Together, with a compelling virtual opening ceremony on Friday. The two-day event aims to harness youth innovation to tackle critical global issues related to clean water, sanitation, and climate action.
The highlight of the opening session was a thought-provoking keynote address by Dr. Shittu Ibrahim of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Addressing the theme, Exploring Partnership for Clean Water, Sanitised Environment, and a Safe Climate, Dr. Shittu emphasized the urgent need for action in combating water scarcity and the effects of climate change.
He called on young people to take deliberate steps to make an impact, Speak Up Advocate, mobilize resources, and foster collaboration within communities among others.
Commending NASFAT Youth for championing sustainability, Dr. Shittu encouraged them to become change agents in their communities.
The opening session also featured remarks from Bro. Tajudeen Oladupo, NASFAT Youth Secretary, who stressed the transition from advocacy to implementation. He reaffirmed NASFAT’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and 13 (Climate Action), and highlighted the organization’s openness to partnerships.
Notable attendees included Mr. Fatai Olayemi (NASFAT General Secretary), Bro. Kabir Raji (NASFAT Ex-officio), Zonal Youth Coordinators, and Hajia Sidikat Folami of Mateen Lander Limited, all of whom praised the initiative’s vision and execution.
The second day of NasHack for Impact 2025 is slated for Monday, April 21.
It will feature an idea contest where youth delegates from different NASFAT zones will pitch innovative solutions. Focus areas include improving access to clean water, enhancing sanitation through waste management, fostering youth-led climate action, and developing digital platforms for sustainability partnerships.
Judges comprising experts from various fields will evaluate entries based on alignment with the SDGs, innovation, feasibility, scalability, teamwork, and faith-aligned community impact.
Each participating zone will be represented by a five-member team, following a detailed briefing delivered during the opening session.
High-level guests, including the NASFAT President and members of the NEC, are expected to attend the final pitch event.
