Natasha Defies Kogi Government’s Rally Ban, Affirms Sallah Visit to Constituents.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has confirmed that she will proceed with her planned visit to her constituency for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations despite the state government’s recent ban on public rallies and gatherings.

Addressing concerns over speculations suggesting a possible cancellation, the senator, through a statement released by her media team in the early hours of Tuesday, urged her supporters to disregard such claims, affirming her commitment to engaging with her constituents during the festive period.

“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central Senatorial District will proceed as planned. Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit,” the statement read.

The lawmaker further reassured her supporters that her homecoming was in line with her responsibilities as the representative of Kogi Central, emphasizing that her presence would foster unity and community engagement.

“As the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her people and strengthening the spirit of unity and cooperation. Her dedication to the well-being of Kogi Central is unwavering, and she looks forward to celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents,” the statement added.

The senator’s reaffirmation of her visit comes just hours after the Kogi State Government imposed a ban on public rallies and gatherings. The decision, announced on Monday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, was attributed to intelligence reports suggesting potential security threats linked to politically motivated and religiously inclined demonstrations in Kogi Central.

According to the state government, the restriction was implemented to prevent any breach of security that could destabilize peace in the region. The directive also prohibited fishing activities, following recent violent incidents that resulted in the tragic loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette communities, all in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi West.

Fanwo reiterated that the government remains committed to maintaining law and order, cautioning individuals and groups against any actions that could incite unrest.

Meanwhile, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters have continued to express enthusiasm for her visit, affirming that her presence will serve as a morale boost for the people of Kogi Central during the Sallah festivities.

With arrangements reportedly in place for a smooth and peaceful celebration, all eyes are on the senator’s return to her constituency amid the state government’s stringent regulations on public gatherings.
