As part of its ongoing efforts to uplift the less privileged and promote economic empowerment, the NASFAT Agency for Zakat and Sadaqat (NAZAS), FCT Zone, disbursed ₦8 million to selected beneficiaries in Abuja to commemorate the Islamic month of Muharram. In his opening remarks, Chairman of the NAZAS FCT Zone, Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola, highlighted some of the agency’s major milestones since its inception in 2014. He noted that NAZAS has mobilized over ₦1 billion nationwide and directly impacted more than 4,000 lives through various intervention programs.
“These interventions include vocational training and business support for over 2,000 individuals, annual scholarships awarded to more than 500 students, Iftar meals provided to over 7,000 beneficiaries—including inmates and students—and food and clothing distributed to more than 10,000 orphans, widows, and other vulnerable groups,” Ajibola stated.
He urged the 28 beneficiaries of the latest disbursement to utilize the funds responsibly and focus on building sustainable livelihoods. “Zakat is not just charity; it is a trust from the Ummah to uplift lives. We encourage all beneficiaries to make the most of this support,” he added.
Other council members in attendance were Barrister S.O.Q. Giwa, Dr. Raji Mustapha, Dr. (Mrs.) Lami Salau, and Alhaji Adegbayo Kilani who also offered words of encouragement. They advised beneficiaries to be diligent, faithful, and disciplined in managing the support received, noting that sincere effort often leads to lasting success.
In their responses, the beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to NAZAS and the donors, pledging to make judicious use of the funds. They also offered prayers for the donors, asking Allah to reward them abundantly.
The event once again underscores NAZAS’s unwavering commitment to deploying Zakat and Sadaqat as effective tools for social justice, economic empowerment, and community development.
