NBA Vows Relentless War Against Corruption in Nigeria

Abuja, June 19, 2025 – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has reaffirmed its commitment to confronting corruption head-on, declaring that the legal body will continue to fight graft until it is brought to a standstill across all sectors of Nigerian society.

The bold declaration was made by the NBA leadership during a high-level anti-corruption symposium held in Abuja, where senior members of the bar, legal experts, and civil society groups gathered to discuss the country’s persistent battle against systemic corruption.

Addressing participants, the NBA President emphasized that the association will not relent in its advocacy for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. He described corruption as the greatest threat to Nigeria’s development, and one that must be dismantled through bold legal reforms and institutional discipline.

“We will not back down. This is not a seasonal crusade. We will fight corruption until it grinds to a standstill,” the NBA President declared. “The NBA remains committed to promoting justice and holding those in positions of power accountable, regardless of status or political affiliation.”

He further urged all legal practitioners to uphold ethical standards in their practice and serve as watchdogs of justice within their respective jurisdictions. The NBA, he noted, is strengthening its disciplinary mechanisms to sanction members who compromise the integrity of the profession by enabling corrupt practices.

Participants at the event also called for stronger synergy between the NBA, anti-graft agencies, and the judiciary, insisting that a coordinated legal front is necessary to break the cycle of impunity that shields corrupt individuals from punishment.

The NBA’s renewed stance comes amid public frustration over slow prosecution of high-profile cases and growing concerns about the credibility of anti-corruption institutions. With this declaration, the association signals a more proactive and confrontational posture in addressing corruption within both government and the private sector.

As Nigeria grapples with the social and economic costs of corruption, the NBA says it will continue to push for reforms that make justice more accessible, enforceable, and immune to political interference.
