NCAA Summons Domestic Airlines Over Flight Delays and Passenger Welfare Concerns

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) convened an emergency meeting today with all 13 scheduled domestic airlines in Abuja to address escalating issues of flight delays, cancellations, and passenger welfare. The regulator cited growing passenger frustrations and recent incidents of unruly behavior at airports as key reasons for the intervention.
The meeting focused on enforcing existing aviation regulations, including the provision of hotel accommodations for passengers stranded between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM due to flight disruptions. Additionally, the NCAA discussed plans for the introduction of RFID baggage tagging and real-time flight monitoring technology to improve airline operations.
The authority warned airlines that non-compliance with consumer protection rules could lead to public naming and sanctions. The NCAA also acknowledged that inadequate airline response to flight disruptions has contributed to rising passenger unrest and reaffirmed its commitment to stricter enforcement to protect passenger rights.
