NDLEA Intercepts Shipment of Psychoactive Drugs Disguised as Green Tea

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of illicit psychoactive substances deceptively packaged as green tea, raising fresh concerns over the evolving tactics of drug traffickers in Nigeria.

Spokesperson for the agency, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the development on Sunday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), alerting Nigerians to be extra cautious.

According to Babafemi, although the shipment appeared to be an import of regular green tea, NDLEA operatives discovered that the content was in fact a psychoactive substance capable of inducing mental instability.

“This consignment is a green tea import in packaging and on the outside, but if you drink it, you may lose your mind because the real and undisclosed content is psychoactive substances as discovered by #ndlea_nigeria officers in one of our latest seizures,” he wrote. “Shine your eyes.”

The agency did not immediately disclose the origin of the shipment or whether any suspects had been arrested in connection with the seizure.

NDLEA has continued to intensify its crackdown on the smuggling of hard drugs and other banned substances into the country, with several arrests and seizures recorded in recent months.
