NDPC Seeks Strategic Partnership with BPP on Data Policy Implementation and Protection

Abuja, Nigeria – June 15, 2025

The National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has expressed the Commission’s intention to collaborate with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to strengthen the strategic implementation of data protection policies across federal institutions.

During a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the BPP, Mr. Mamman Ahmadu, Dr. Olatunji emphasized the importance of safeguarding citizens’ data in an increasingly digital governance environment. He stated that effective collaboration between both agencies would ensure public institutions adhere strictly to Nigeria’s data protection regulations and uphold global best practices.

“This partnership is crucial in embedding data protection compliance in public procurement processes and ensuring that contractors and service providers meet the required data privacy standards,” Dr. Olatunji noted.

In his response, Mr. Ahmadu assured the NDPC of BPP’s readiness to integrate data protection criteria in procurement evaluation and contractor selection processes. He acknowledged that data is now a key asset that must be securely handled in all government engagements.

The strategic alliance is expected to foster greater accountability, improve institutional data governance, and support Nigeria’s journey toward a fully digitized and secure public service sector.
