The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has extended humanitarian assistance to victims of terrorist attacks in Kebbi State, as part of ongoing efforts to provide succour to internally displaced persons and affected communities in Nigeria’s conflict zones.
The relief distribution, carried out through NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office, was officially presented by the Head of the office, Mr. Aliyu S. Kafindangi, who led a delegation to the affected areas on behalf of the Director General, Mustapha Habib Ahmed.
The intervention comes in response to recent violent attacks attributed to armed insurgents operating in the region, notably the Lakurawa terrorist group, which have left several communities in disarray, forcing hundreds to flee their homes and seek safety in temporary camps or host communities.
During the presentation, NEMA delivered essential relief items, including food supplies such as rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil, and salt, as well as non-food items like mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, nylon mats, clothing, and hygiene kits. The aim, according to the agency, is to ease the hardship being faced by displaced persons and help restore a sense of stability as they recover from the trauma of the attacks.
“We are here on behalf of the Federal Government to identify with you in your time of distress and to let you know that you are not alone. These items are provided to help meet your immediate needs as you begin the process of rebuilding your lives,” said Mr. Kafindangi during the handover ceremony.
He further reiterated NEMA’s commitment to continuing its response efforts across all conflict-affected states and working closely with state emergency agencies and other stakeholders to ensure timely and effective humanitarian action.
Beneficiaries, including women, children, and the elderly, expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a lifeline in the face of hardship. Local leaders also commended NEMA for its swift intervention, while calling for increased security presence in rural communities to prevent further attacks.
The Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) assured that the relief items would be fairly distributed and that continuous assessment was being conducted to address evolving needs.
This latest intervention adds to NEMA’s series of nationwide humanitarian operations targeting victims of insurgency, banditry, and natural disasters — as Nigeria grapples with multiple humanitarian crises across various regions.
