NEMA, SEMA Conduct Humanitarian Needs Assessment in Tangaza LGA, Sokoto State

Tangaza, Sokoto – July 2025

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has conducted a humanitarian needs assessment in Tangaza Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.

The joint assessment followed reports of escalating humanitarian challenges in the area, including displacement, food insecurity, and damage to critical infrastructure due to recent environmental and conflict-related factors.

The assessment team, comprising NEMA’s officials from the North-West Zonal Office and SEMA operatives, visited affected communities to gather data on the scale of displacement, shelter needs, access to clean water, health conditions, and livelihood disruptions.

During the visit, the Head of NEMA’s Assessment Team, Mr. Musa Aliyu, emphasized the importance of evidence-based response planning. He noted that the findings from the field visit would guide the development of an appropriate and coordinated relief intervention in line with the agency’s mandate.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of Sokoto SEMA, Hajiya Amina Bala, expressed concern over the growing vulnerability of displaced families in the area and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to working with the Federal Government to alleviate the suffering of affected residents.

Local community leaders and residents also engaged with the delegation, sharing firsthand accounts of their experiences and calling for urgent support in the areas of food, shelter, and health services.

NEMA assured the communities that the agency is working with relevant stakeholders to activate timely humanitarian support to cushion the impact of their current hardship.
