Netanyahu Heads to Washington as Israeli Strikes Intensify in Gaza Amid U.S. Ceasefire Proposal

Washington / Gaza – September 29, 2025

Israeli air and artillery strikes pounded several areas across the Gaza Strip on Monday, leaving widespread destruction as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepared to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

The meeting comes amid a 21-point proposal by the United States aimed at halting the conflict, which has raged since October 2023.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 66,000 people have been killed and over 168,000 injured since the escalation began.

The figures have not been independently verified but are widely cited by international humanitarian agencies. Israeli forces said operations were targeting Hamas positions, while residents reported extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.

The U.S. proposal under discussion calls for an immediate ceasefire, the swift release of hostages, expanded humanitarian access, and a phased Israeli withdrawal, alongside plans for a transitional governance and security arrangement in Gaza. Neither Israel nor Hamas has formally accepted the plan, and negotiations remain ongoing.

The Washington talks are seen as a critical moment in efforts to end the hostilities, with both regional stability and humanitarian concerns at the center of the discussions.
