Newcastle United have officially completed the signing of Sweden international Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £55 million. The 23-year-old winger becomes Eddie Howe’s latest acquisition as the Magpies gear up for a return to the UEFA Champions League following a strong fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Elanga enjoyed an impressive 2024–25 campaign with Forest, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists under manager Nuno Espirito Santo. His performances caught the attention of several top clubs, but Newcastle acted swiftly to secure the highly rated attacker early in the transfer window.
Speaking to the club’s official website, manager Eddie Howe expressed his delight at the capture. “I am delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a key target for us so I’m pleased to secure him at this early part of pre-season. He is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy and ability to create and score goals will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play.”
Elanga also shared his excitement about the move, stating, “I’m ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football. I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I’m really happy to be here now. Elanga initially joined Forest in 2023 for a reported £15 million from Manchester United, where he had risen through the youth ranks since age 12 and made 55 senior appearances. Forest were keen to retain his services, and the player did not actively seek a move, but Newcastle’s substantial offer ultimately proved too attractive for the club to turn down.
Elanga’s arrival adds another dimension to Newcastle’s attacking lineup and signals their intent to compete strongly on all fronts in the upcoming season.
