The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has declared its full support for the deployment of digital assets and emerging technologies in tackling the country’s growing security challenges. This position was made public following a recent high-level meeting held in Abuja, where all 36 state governors convened to discuss pressing national issues, with security at the forefront.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the NGF stated that the adoption of modern digital tools such as surveillance technology, data analytics, and blockchain systems has become essential in enhancing the effectiveness and accountability of Nigeria’s security architecture.
The governors highlighted the urgent need to leverage real-time data collection, geospatial intelligence, and predictive analytics in crime detection and response efforts. According to the Forum, the integration of these technologies would provide law enforcement agencies and security operatives with critical tools to monitor threats, track criminal activity, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
In addition, the NGF expressed optimism that digital assets could improve transparency in the allocation and utilization of security-related resources. By incorporating blockchain-based systems into budgetary and operational workflows, the Forum believes that states can reduce inefficiencies and plug financial leakages in the sector.
The governors also underscored the importance of cooperative governance in achieving these objectives, calling for stronger collaboration between federal and state institutions. They urged the Federal Government to invest in nationwide digital infrastructure and support state-level efforts to build technology-driven security frameworks.
The move by the NGF comes amid increasing cases of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and communal violence across several regions of Nigeria. Security experts have long argued that Nigeria’s conventional security methods must be augmented with cutting-edge digital solutions to stay ahead of fast-evolving threats.
As digital transformation continues to reshape global security practices, the NGF’s position signals a forward-looking approach aimed at equipping Nigeria’s security apparatus with the tools needed to protect lives, property, and national stability.
