Nigeria and Sweden Deepen Development Cooperation at 2025 UN Meetings

On the sidelines of the 2025 United Nations meetings in New York, Nigeria and Sweden have reinforced their commitment to collaborative development efforts. Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Finance, engaged in bilateral discussions with Ms. Diana Janse, Sweden’s State Secretary for International Development Cooperation. The talks centered on enhancing partnerships in technology innovation, digital ecosystems, and green economy initiatives, aligning with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda for sustainable development .

In a related development, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden visited Nigeria in April 2025. Accompanied by Sweden’s Minister for Infrastructure, Mr. Andreas Carlsson, and a delegation of Swedish business leaders, the visit aimed to strengthen ties in climate action and innovation. The delegation engaged with local communities and participated in discussions on green finance and sustainable development, highlighting Sweden’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s environmental and economic goals.

Further solidifying economic relations, Business Sweden inaugurated a new office in Lagos during a business delegation visit in April 2025. The initiative seeks to foster trade and investment opportunities, particularly in sectors like fintech, e-commerce, and renewable energy, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and diversification efforts.

These engagements underscore a mutual dedication to fostering sustainable development, technological advancement, and economic collaboration between Nigeria and Sweden.
