Nigeria Clinches Spot at 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championship

Abuja, July 1, 2025 — The Nigerian women’s beach volleyball duo of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa has earned a coveted spot at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship, following a dramatic third-place victory over Egypt at the CAVB Continental Championship in Martil, Morocco.

In a thrilling bronze medal match, Mbah and Bawa fought back to secure a 2‑1 win, taking the first set 21‑14, dropping the second 20‑22, and sealing the win with a 15‑9 final set triumph  . Their performance not only showcased resilience and skill but also reaffirmed Nigeria’s growing strength in the continental beach volleyball arena  .

Head Coach Kayode Ajilore praised the team’s unwavering commitment, stating, “The players have shown the world that our silver medal at the African Games was no fluke… They played to every instruction and gave it their all”  . He also acknowledged the instrumental roles played by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, led by Engineer Musa Nimrod, and the motivational presence of Samuel Onikeku, Sports Secretary of the Nigeria Customs Service  .

Nigeria joins Egypt and Morocco as Africa’s representation at this year’s global event, set to take place in Adelaide, Australia, from November 14 to 23  .

This achievement underscores Nigeria’s rising prominence in beach volleyball and sets the stage for their appearance on the world stage later this year in Australia.
